Dancing with the Valley Stars

HOLIDAY INN - BOARDMAN DONATES $15,000 to TOD CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
Ten celebrities performed ballroom-style dance routines for an audience of more than 200 at the hotel on Friday as part of the "Dancing with the Valley Stars" fundraiser.

(BOARDMAN) - A crowd of more than 200 gathered at the Holiday Inn - Boardman's grand ballroom on Friday to watch a ballroom-style dance competition for charity... with a twist.

The twist? The event, called "Dancing with the Valley Stars," featured the fancy footwork of several well-known individuals from the world of news, radio, business and politics. Each performed a routine with a skilled dance instructor; the audience then had the chance to vote by placing a donation in the box marked with their favorite couple's names.

Dr. Stephanie Dewar, pediatrician at Tod Children's Hospital, received the most donations and was named the “Dancing with the Valley Stars” champion. More than $6,000 was raised from donations on the night of the event.

The event was held in conjunction with the hotel’s switch to new ownership and management. Janus Hotels and Resorts, Inc. recently assumed management responsibilities at the property, which was purchased by Rupen Patel in July.

100% of the earnings from both ticket sales and night-of donations were given to Tod Children's Hospital. A total of approximately $13,000 was raised, and Patel contributed an additional $2,000 so that a $15,000 donation could be made.

"Dancing with the Valley Stars was more successful than we ever imagined," Patel said after the event on Friday. "The enthusiasm of the people in this area has truly amazed me. They rallied behind this cause, and as a result we were able to donate $15,000 to a wonderful cause."

Immediately after presenting a check to Forum Health representative Dr. Ayman Saley, Mr. Patel announced that the hotel will sponsor a second "Dancing with the Valley Stars" in 2006.

“We would like to turn what could have simply been a one-time event into a lasting tradition,” Patel said.
